Observe the 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT, the car that, until now, was only available as the Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H, the black and gold pony exclusively rented out at your local Hertz Rent-a-Car. Shelby GT begins as a stock Mustang GT and adds a Ford Racing Power Pack and Handling Pack to each car.
Underhood, the Ford Racing Power Pack increases the output of the naturally aspirated, three-valve, Mustang GT 4.6-liter V-8 to 319 horsepower, with 330 foot-pounds of torque. The Power Pack includes a 90-millimeter cold-air intake and a new performance engine calibration for improved throttle response. The high-flow exhaust system with X-pipe crossover offers better power delivery and a throatier V-8 exhaust note. A shorter rear-axle ratio is installed to capitalize on the Shelby GT’s extra power, especially off-the-line acceleration. For Shelby GTs equipped with a manual transmission, a Hurst short-throw shifter is installed for more precise shift action.
Production of the 2008 Shelby GT has been limited to 2200 vehicles. It will be offered as a coupe or convertible, and it will only be available in Vista Blue exterior color. It's accented by silver LeMans-style racing stripes that extend over the hood, roof and trunk, and are complemented by matching side stripes with “Shelby GT” nomenclature. The Shelby GT features a unique front fascia with a more aggressive lower air dam, a brushed-aluminum grille, larger dual exhausts, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, Shelby trunk lid badging and special side scoops; a unique scooped hood is also available.

Forty years after the first Shelby GT500 was produced, performance legend Carroll Shelby and the Ford Mustang have been powerfully reunited with the introduction of the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 – the most powerful factory Mustang ever. The result of an alliance between Shelby and the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT), the GT500 returns to the streets as a thoroughly modern successor to the famous Shelby GT500 of the late 1960s.
Featuring a 500-horsepower supercharged 5.4-liter 32-valve V-8 with a 6-speed manual transmission, race-tuned suspension and four-piston Brembo brakes, the new GT500 packs a heavy dose of pure American muscle to back up its aggressive looks. Its unique front-end design, bulging hood with heat extractors, rear spoiler, and unmistakable Le Mans racing stripes tells the world this is not your typical Mustang. To mark the melding of Mustang performance icons, the GT500 also features Shelby, Cobra and SVT badging.
Like the original, the GT500 is available both as a coupe and as a convertible – both versions delivering the kind of broad torque curve that had won the big-block Shelby acclaim as king of the road.
